‘Going where the MLA goes’: Several NPF offices in ACs switch sides

Dimapur, May 5 (MExN): The offices of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) in several assembly constituencies (ACs) of Nagaland have been either dissolved or switching sides to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), following latest political development in the State on April 29. 

Depending on one’s viewpoint, on April 29, 21 out of 25 NPF legislators in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly either ‘merged with’ or ‘defected to’ the NDPP. 

The development was followed by switching of sides of party workers in several ACs, as they flocked to the NDPP, supporting their incumbent legislator. On Thursday, three ACs informed of switching sides. 

A press release informed that the 38th Wokha AC parent body and the women wing have resigned en masse from the NPF to support its representative, Dr Chumben Murry. It was decided at an emergency meeting held on May 2.

Meanwhile, the NPF’s 52 Longkhim-Chare AC office also decided to dissolve all the organs of the NPF party in the constituency and resign from the primary and active membership on May 4 and support MLA Muthingnyuba Sangtam and strengthen the functioning of the NDPP,’ stated a press release from the office. 

In Pughoboto, the NPF Division informed that it was also dissolved at a meeting held on May 5 to demonstrate support to the elected representative, Y Vikheho Swu and the erstwhile members further resolved to join the NDPP en masse.

On May 2, the office of the NFP 7AC Peren also informed of its dissolution and said that the officer bearers along with all the party’s rank and file have resolved to continue to support the leadership of TR Zeliang.
