Goods haulage by rail increasing: NFR

Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): Goods haulage by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is reportedly increasing year after year. According to a press release from the NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, “freight loading” increased to 9.183 million tonnes from April 2023 to February 2024 with the month of February alone accounting for 0.832 million tonnes (MT).  During the same period, it said that hauling of POL items increased by 28%. It however did not specify what POL stands for. Loading of fertilizer also registered an increase by 5.3% and cement by 3.2%. Container loading increased by 8.9%, loading of food grains increased by 22.3% and loading of ballast also registered an increase of 18% as compared to the corresponding period of the last financial year. The release claimed that the NFR is working dedicatedly round the clock to serve its customers and ensuring essential commodities reach the end users on time. According to it, the increase in “freight loading” signifies the economic activities of the region.
