Mokokchung (Meyilong), August 14 (MExN): Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, Nagaland, Alemtemshi Jamir disclosed that the 12th Five year Plan for Nagaland is focusing on ‘urbanization’ of rural areas and on addressing ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’ for the all round development of Nagaland.
Speaking as the chief guest at a formal programme on August 13, at Meyilong village after inaugurating the monolith of village foundation and the village community hall, the Additional CS & Development Commissioner harped on the urbanization process of rural areas amidst the challenges of global warming and climate change.
In this connection, Alemtemshi Jamir said that the 12th Five year Plan is starting next year and that the state government is working out the plan objective for the next 12 five year plan outlay. However, he pointed out that in Nagaland, unlike in other parts of rural India, the livelihood aspect is not so acute, since the central government with its different flagship programmes like NREGA, SSA and NRHM which focuses on employment, education and health in rural areas have ensured the basic fundamental factors of human life. However, he said that the biggest problem is the unemployment of educated youths, who are literate and educated, but without any employment opportunities, and who also cannot go back to the fields to work.
Saying that it is not the fault of educated unemployed youths who cannot go back to the fields to work, since it is just a part of civilization, Alemtemshi said that the government is focusing on urbanization of rural areas while also seeking to address climate change. Global warming which leads to climate change, according to Alemtemshi Jamir, is very important since climate change has the power to affect the water and environment of an area and which would ultimately affect the agricultural prospects of the area.
He also urged the Meyilong villagers, which is located 27 kms away from Mokokchung town, on NH 155 bordering Tuensang district that such small villages would become a township in the future. Because the government of India has in its National Highway Plan to make the NH into a two lane International highway within five years, keeping in tune with the Look East Policy to connect with Burma, said Alemtemshi. He also disclosed that the government plans to make the NH 155 into a four lane highway within 15 years. In such a changing scenario, the National Highway 155 would become a very vital road linking different countries, and which would mean a lot of international trade and commercialization.
However, the chief guest pointed out that to make such a plan come true, there is a need for peace and harmony and amity among the different tribes of Nagaland. Highly appreciating the participation of the neighboring tribal villages – Chare village, Chungliyimti New Village, Chungliyimti Old village, Ungma Village, Chubayimkum, Moalenden villages – converging together and celebrating together, Alemtemshi Jamir said that this kind of amity is the need of the hour for further development. He therefore stressed on the people to maintain such peace and peaceful co-existence in the future for better development of the state.
It may be noted here that Meyilong village, located at 27 kilometers away from Mokokchung, borders between Tuensang and Mokokchung. The village is formed under Longsa village territory. The village was formed under the leadership of Tekameren and Lanukaba of Longsa village, under the active initiative of NI Jamir, former Minister and father of Alemtemshi Jamir, Addl CS & Dev Comm.
