Kohima, August 25 (MExN): The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) on Child Labour has launched the Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign 4.0 as part of the nationwide initiative of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
The campaign was launched on August 24, with an awareness programme being conducted in schools across Kohima district from August 24 to 28. As of August 25, the programme had covered Government Middle School L Khel, GMS P Khel, GMS Merhulietsa and GMS New Minister's Hill, reaching students and teachers at the four institutions. The DTF is scheduled to continue the awareness drive in other schools during the campaign.
The programme covered provisions of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, including the prohibition on employment of children below 14 years and adolescents aged 14 to 18 years in hazardous occupations and processes. Participants were also informed about penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for violations.
Teachers were encouraged to monitor attendance closely and report cases where a child remains absent from school consecutively for 15 days to the concerned authorities for intervention. Following the awareness phase, the DTF will conduct inspections and rescue operations to identify children and adolescents engaged in prohibited employment and facilitate rehabilitation and follow-up action.
The task force appealed to schools, parents, communities and the public to report suspected cases of child labour.
