DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NEPS): The Government of Nagaland has finally agreed to formally hand over the State’s only “Dimapur Referral Hospital” to “Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR)” on the 1st of March 2006. In this regard, the department of Health and Family Welfare is arranging the “Handing over Ceremony” on March 1 next inside the premises of the Dimapur Referral Hospital here with State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr TM Lotha as Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively.
The re-christening of the “Dimapur Referral Hospital” to “Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR)” was agreed upon when an official team of the State led by Dr Lotha entered into a fresh “Tripartite Agreement” with CMC, Vellore and EHA on May 27 last year in Vellore.
Hectic preparation is going on inside the Dimapur Referral Hospital with various departments working round the clock to provide necessary requirement before formally handing over the hospital to the CMC and EHA, which will then take the responsibility of managing the affairs of the hospital.
Talking to NEPS after inspecting the ongoing preparations in the Dimapur Referral Hospital here today, Dr Lotha expressed confidence of the early commissioning of the hospital. He said the CMC, Vellore, having its Christian background coming to Nagaland to be “partner in running the affairs of the CIHSR will be part of the missionary work to the Naga people.” He quoted the CMC Director as saying “We have taken the responsibility to make the project as part of the missionary work through health services.”
The Minister said once it was commissioned, it would not only benefit Nagaland but also the entire region. “It will be another CMC in the region,” he added. “The hospital would later become a center of attraction for the whole of northeast.”
It may be mentioned that Rs 82 crore had already been spent for the construction of the Referral Hospital.
