DIMAPUR, JAN 25 (MExN): Taking exception to the alleged support rendered by three top district officials towards a Tikhir students’ conference, the Yimchungrü Students’ Union known as the Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA) has asked Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta to take stringent action against them.
The YAA has alleged that the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Kiphire along with the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Shamator willfully disobeyed a government directive which led to the Shamator- Kiphire road blockade on January 14 by the YAA whereby a Tuensang bound NST bus was severely damaged by the agitating students.
Stating that the Yimchungrü tribe is a recognized major tribe, the memorandum to the Governor says, “Therefore, to bring home this fact that such a tribe called Tikhir does not exist nor is recognized at the moment and as such is not acceptable and therefore holding of conference or any other gathering by any such unauthorized sub-dialect group of people is considered illegal and unbecoming.”
The YAA, on receiving information that the Tikhir students’ were holding their conference from January 12 to 15 decided to approach the government to ban the conference “as the village falls under dispute area and is under Yimchunger land.”
Accordingly, the YAA had submitted a representation to the Commissioner, Nagaland immediately. “Home Commissioner then endorsed it to the DC (HQ) Commissioner office Kohima to direct the DCs of Tuensang and Kiphire for maintaining status quo.”
The Commissioner, Nagaland followed suit, the YAA said. The officials in question had snubbed the order, the Yimchungrü students alleged as substance for action to be taken against them.
