Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, attended the 24th Diksha Mahotsav of Acharya Pramukh Sagarji Maharaj at Mahavir Bhavan in Dimapur today. This event celebrated the spiritual journey of Acharya Sagarji, who renounced worldly life at the age of 21.
During his address, Governor Ganesan expressed his honor at sharing the stage with the revered Acharya. He highlighted the significance of the Diksha Jayanti, reflecting on Sagarji's journey as he walked barefoot through numerous cities across India.
The Governor spoke of the enduring impact of Jain Tirthankaras, stating, "From the first Lord Rishabhnath to the 24th Lord Mahavira, Jains have been the flag bearers in propagation of ideals and practices that emphasize ahimsa, truth, asceticism, and harmonious existence." He noted that the teachings of these spiritual leaders have not only influenced religious practices but have also shaped Indian culture and philosophy. Governor Ganesan pointed out that the principles of non-violence advocated by Lord Mahavira have inspired prominent figures like Mahatma Gandhi, remaining relevant in today’s society.
He commended the Jain community in Dimapur for their significant contributions to the socio-economic development of Nagaland over the past 140 years. The establishment of institutions like Jain School and a girls' college, as well as charitable endeavors such as hospitals, blood donation camps, and educational support, have greatly benefitted the local population. The Governor also acknowledged the community's proactive response during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the establishment of quarantine centers and vaccinations for over 100,000 individuals.
In his closing remarks, the Governor emphasized the importance of Mahavira's teachings, particularly the principle of "Live and Let Live," urging for peaceful resolutions in times of conflict.
