Nagaland’s Governor RN Ravi today said that the department of Tourism is continuously working towards building and improving tourism infrastructure in the state.
The department is undertaking development of integrated theme based Tribal Circuits under Swadesh Darshan Scheme in a phase-wise manner, Ravi informed.
He said that the department is also focusing on increasing events on culture and heritage, adventure sports and traditional games, food and cuisine, music and arts etc so as to ensure tourist inflow throughout the year in every part of the state.
The Department has tied up with Hanifl Centre to train and equip the guides of the State with knowledge and skills to assist tourists.
The Department has also signed an MoU with Airbnb, one of the leading agencies in the hospitality industry for creating a more inclusive tourism sector in Nagaland that empowers local communities by creating skilled micro-entrepreneurs and build a sustainable home stay ecosystem.
Ravi expressed happiness that the annual Hornbill Festival 2019 has been one of the best and most successful Hornbills, adding that the inflow of tourists to Kohima and other districts during the Festival and in the following weeks was more than 3 (three) lakh.
He said the department is also implementing the JICA assisted Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), which is currently being taken up in 31 villages (Batch-1), where Micro plans have been developed.
The Department has also signed an agreement for an Indo German Financial Cooperation project, "Biodiversity Management in Himalayas - Nagaland" financed by KfW, Germany.
The project which is a grant of 6.5 million euros will cover six districts of the state for a period of eight (8) years starting from 2019-20, Ravi added.
