Nagaland Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi today said that the aim of the state government has always been for taking every possible step to bring development to the door step of every person.

Towards this end, the government has created four districts, namely, Tseminyu, Niuland, Chümoukedima in December 2021 and Shamator district in January 2022.

“The creation of Tseminyu district also realizes the aspirations of the Rengma people to have a district of their own. Shamator district’s creation is also the fulfillment of the desire of the Yimkhiung and Tikhir people to have a separate district and beautifully exemplifies the spirit of conciliation that the brother tribes exhibited for resolving their decades old disputes amicably, which also led to the recognition of Tikhir as a separate Naga tribe,” he said in his address on the first day of 11th session of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) here today.

He said that the up-gradation of Niuland to a full-fledged district was required on administrative grounds, and creation of Chümoukedima district, resolved the matter regarding the headquarters of the erstwhile Dimapur district.

“There are certain other areas of the state also, from where demands have been received for creation of new districts.

My Government, keeping with our motto of unity, would not like to divide any single-tribe district. I congratulate the people of all the newly created districts and assure that we would continuously work towards the rapid and all-encompassing growth and development of these districts,” he said.
