Kohima, March 12 (MExN): Nagaland Governor R N Ravi held a review meeting on the progress of the road projects undertaken by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in the districts of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Mokokchung at the DC Office Longleng on March 12.

A press release from the PRO to Governor informed that NHIDCL is building 2-lane Merangkong-Tamlu-Mon (86.84 Km) and 2-lane Changtongya-Longleng (33.43 Km).

They are also doing maintenance and repair works of Mokokchung-Tuensang (95.0 Km) and Mokokchung-Mariani (63.0 Km). The 2-lane road building projects are to be completed by the later part of 2022 and maintenance and repair in the next 10 months, the release added.

Some minor hindrances which were causing unnecessary delay were reportedly resolved in the meeting. While the pace of road building works are by and large satisfactory, the Governor expressed concern over the slow pace in two packages – Tamlu-Namsang and Wakching-Mon, the release informed. Both these packages are being done by the Contractor M/s Manaranjan Brahma. The Governor advised NHIDCL to take stern actions against the contractor in this regard.

In the discussions with the Deputy Commissioners, the need to build/improve some more roads to improve connectivity with Zunheboto and Tuensang were identified. The Governor assured that he would take up the matter with the Minister, Ministry of Road Transport and Highway for his approval.

The Deputy Commissioners were asked to take active interests in the ongoing infrastructure works and do periodic monitoring for quality control.

The Phom Peoples’ Council also met the Governor and raised the issue of acute water scarcity in Longleng. The Governor assured them of his urgent attention to the issue.

He then visited Bautung Government Higher Secondary School Longleng and shared concern over poor performance of students in High School Examinations with the Principal and teachers and exhorted them to ensure better future of the youth with quality education, the release added.
