Stating that in today’s rapidly changing world, success belongs to those who think independently, communicate effectively, and adapt to change, Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday remarked that literary competitions help develop confidence, critical thinking, and the ability to express ideas with clarity.
He was addressing the 32nd Spero Meliora held under the theme, “Break the ice and steal a march” at the Kohima Village Multipurpose Building, Ziekezou on August 8 while also congratulating the Kohima Village Students’ Union and the Dolphin Club, Kohima Village, for organising the inspiring event for over three decades.
He further commended the organisers, teachers, parents, and volunteers for nurturing the talents and character of young people and encouraged the students “to remain curious, read widely, and pursue your dreams with confidence, integrity, and humility.”
“Remember, true success is measured not only by what you achieve but by the positive impact you make on others,” he said.
In the meantime, he said that the motto Spero Meliora— “I hope for better things”—reflects the aspirations of every student striving for excellence and reminds us that hope inspires achievement, while perseverance and character lead to success.”
Highlighting that this year’s theme, “Break the Ice and Steal a March,” encourages us to overcome hesitation, take initiative, and move ahead with confidence, he added that, “it echoes the timeless words of Swami Vivekananda: “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.”
“Let these words inspire you to seize opportunities, embrace challenges, and strive for excellence”, he added.
Highlights of the event included invocation by Rev Fr Innocent Panmei SDB, Principal, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, welcome address by Kekuolhouthie Dzüvichü, President, Dolphin Club, special song by Pfuchazhünuo, and vote of thanks by Khriesaneikuo Kire, President, Kohima Village Students’ Union while Vidilhou Vincent Yhome and Dziesebeinuo Kire were the comperes.
Competitions in different categories including Extempore Speech, Solo Singung, Cultural Song, Elocution, Debate, Solo Instrumental, Spelling Bee (English/Tenyidie), Quiz, Essay Writing, Creative Writing and Fine Arts were also held as part of the 32nd edition of Spero Meliora organised by Kohima Village Students’ Union and Dolphin Club.
Neitho-o Kuotsu, Joint Director, Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources was the Guest of Honour for the Valedictory programme.
