Governor’s address draws flak from Opposition

KOHIMA MARCH 17 (MExN): As expected, yesterday’s Governor’s address to the Tenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly invited sharp criticism from the opposition Congress today with several members terming it as the replica of the DAN book on its three years celebration while others termed it as “readymade copy of DAN” or the “mouth piece” made available. Senior Congress leader and MLA, KV Pusa who led the debate on Governor’s speech said that they felt sorry for “him” as the DAN has managed to bring him successfully into their fold.

He said that DAN government’s tall claims on the success of peace initiative are only lip service. Pusa alleged that DAN has stalled many peace initiatives like non support to the peace and reconciliation committee, blocking of the NNC unification meet at Wokha, etc.

Congress also said that because of the DAN’s confusing statemenst on peace, even the NGOS and civil societies have lost their way on the peace process. Congress also expressed concern that NGOs are dictating even the government departments by setting up their own inquiries.

It also said that almost all the crucial cases and disputes are often handled by these non-governmental organizations, which clearly proved that the government has failed to perform its duty. The Congress also came down heavily on the issue of ILP/Identity card to the non locals by the some NGOs and underground groups.

The state government has failed to contain even the rampant illegal collection by both the undergrounds and NGOs, which is responsible for escalation of price of essentials commodities, said the Congress.

“Where is our judiciary? What are our police for? What are our administrations for?” asked KV Pusa.

The opposition congress said that the government has failed to provide security to the people. “We are saying there is peace because the security force and the undergrounds are fighting, but what about the bloodshed on almost daily basis amongst the factions”, KV Pusa.

When the state is recovering the bullet riddled bodies, on almost daily basis, how can the government say that law and order has improved, the Congress legislator questioned.

Opposition went on to add that even judiciary has been taken over by the non-governmental organizations, all crucial cases and boundary dispute are often handled by the NGOs “It is because we are safe with 2-3 body guards do you thinks the state is peaceful, but people are living in psychosis”, said Pusa.
