Kohima, May 29 (MExN): Three persons with disabilities in Peren district have successfully received their Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards following a direct intervention by Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav, who had set a seven-day deadline for the departments concerned to act.
The PRO, Lok Bhavan Nagaland in a press release said that the Governor had taken cognisance of a news report highlighting inordinate delays in the issuance of UDID cards to the three applicants, Kerehunglungle, Nchayi Kuame and Keligumbe Hairangbuing, and directed the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Health & Family Welfare to resolve the matter on priority.
Acting on the Governor’s directive, both departments coordinated swiftly to process and issue the pending cards within the stipulated deadline of May 29, bringing relief to the affected families.
The beneficiaries will now be able to access a range of government welfare schemes, assistance programmes, rehabilitation support and other entitlements linked to the UDID system.
The departments are also in coordination with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to facilitate assistive devices and support for the three beneficiaries based on their individual needs.
Governor Yadav lauded the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Health & Family Welfare for their prompt response and coordinated efforts in resolving the matter within the stipulated timeframe.
He reiterated the importance of ensuring timely delivery of essential services to persons with disabilities and directed the departments concerned to continue addressing procedural delays affecting beneficiaries in the district.
