DIMAPUR: Conceding to the demands of the Lotha students union (LSU) for sufficient power supply to Wokha District, the Government of Nagaland has already begun construction and assembling of feeder lines from the Doyang Hydro Project.

According to LSU sources the administration in the specific area has already begun work of laying electric feeder lines with tonnage of about 132 KV from Doyang Hydro project. Of the 132 KV Wokha district would be supplied about 33 KV from Doyang via connecting extra grids and feeder conduits. It was informed that the laying of the feeder lines was expected to be completed within a couple of months. An LSU leader told The Morung Express that the “efficiency and sufficiency” of the electricity supply to Wokha as demanded by the LSU would be seen only after the completion of the side works in process.

Meanwhile sources told this paper that the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha had been intimated by the State Government that construction works of the Wokha-Merapani road would begin very soon. However an LSU representative although confirming to have “heard” about it, said that the information was still yet to be confirmed since the government hadn’t yet intimated the Lotha students’ organization on the matter. “We have heard about the Government intimating the DC Wokha on the commencement of construction of the Wokha-Merapani road but we are still yet to get official confirmation whether the State would really be starting the work soon” a leader from the organization told this paper.

On the by, the LSU reiterated that it would not hesitate to launch it’s 3rd phase of agitation if the government failed to address positively to the demands made by the LSU and other frontline social organizations in Wokha in regard to the construction of the Merapani-Wokha road as well as providing for efficient power supply to the district. It was of the opinion that unless the State government came out with “black and white points” the LSU would not hesitate to take whatever necessary action was to be taken.
