Kohima, Feb 24 (MExN): As part of extending floriculture activities to the rural areas and other districts of the state, the government proposes to take up dry flower diversification. “Under this project, the cultivation of certain varieties of flowers suitable for drying and does not required protected cultivation will be taken up on mass scale during the dry months in the state,” said horticulture secretary LH Thangi Mannen. Under this scheme, the government proposes to provide inputs such as dryers, collection facilities, drying agents and impart training on the techniques of drying, treatments and creating the finished products, Mannen said. The state is already noted for its potential in this sector, and it will be our endevour to carry this forward this reputation. The floriculture units are being taken up not 100 per cent funded by the government, the infrastructure requirements such as shade nets, poly sheets, the irrigation, fertigation system are 50 per cent subsidized, the balance of which are to be bone by the growers.
