Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The Department of Economics & Statistics has issued a notification on the digitization of old manual birth and death certificates through the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India (ORGI) Portal (crsorgi.gov.in). The initiative aims to create a comprehensive digital registry of birth and death records in the state in view of the increasing requirement for digital certificates by citizens and various institutions.
According to the notification, certificates issued prior to 2014 will be digitized after the applicant surrenders the original manual certificates to the concerned Registrar. A new digitized certificate will then be issued to the applicant.
For certificates issued after 2014, applicants are required to produce an affidavit approved by a District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, or an Executive Magistrate authorized by the District Magistrate to the Registrar along with the original manual birth or death certificate for digitization.
The Department stated that “only genuine certificate issued by the Registrar of Births & Deaths and information available in the record can be digitized.”
It further informed that District Economics & Statistics Officers (DESOs) have been authorized to register birth and death events through the CRS, ORGI Portal for rural registration units which are yet to be digitized.
