Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland has ordered a high-level inquiry to probe into the June 30 killing of two villagers and injuring two others more, of “Inavi (Naga United) Village.” The political branch of the Home department issued the order, appended by Chief Secretary of Nagaland Lalthara, today.
The government has denounced the cowardly act and has assured to bring the accused to book.
Principal Secretary CJ Ponraj heads the inquiry committee, and Secretary to DUDA T Cholongshe Sangtam and CCF Panger Jamir, IFS, are members. The committee is to inquire into the circumstances and causes leading to the incident, “groups/individual responsible for the attack/firing leading to the death of two Inavi villagers and causing injury to two others of the village” and (suggest) measures required to be adopted to prevent reoccurrence of such incidents in the future. The committee is to submit its report within one month.
The state government has also announced one lakh each “to the persons killed in the incident” and Rs. 50, 000 to the injured. A government circular appended by Chief Secretary Lalthara announced the ex-gratia today.
“The government condemned the cowardly acts of the perpetrators and reiterate its stand to bring the accused to book and appeals to the public to assist and cooperate with the government, the administration and the law enforcing agencies in maintaining peace and harmony in the society,” the government’s note stated.
