Govt to probe alleged police assault on doc

The Nagaland State Government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged police assault on a medical doctor in Dimapur on August 21. 

The order issued by the Principal Secretary, Home, on August 23, stated that a 3-member Inquiry Committee, headed by Neposo Theluo, Commissioner and Secretary, RD, will conduct a detailed inquiry into the facts and circumstances of the case. 

"The Inquiry Committee will submit its report within seven days of the date of issue of this notification," it stated, while adding that the order was in supersession of the inquiry instituted by the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur.

As reported in the news, Dr Atoka Wotsa, pathologist, incharge of the COVID-19 sample collection centre at 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, was assaulted by NAP (IR) personnel near Faith Hospital on the night of August 21, while he was on his way to his quarantine quarters.

Dr Wotsa accused the police personnel of high handed action, while stating that the police personnel assaulted him following an exchange of words with a group of youths, whose car was blocking his way on the road.
