Kohima, Jan 28 (MExN): The State government has taken a decision to take over four private colleges from February this year. The four colleges included Peren College, Peren, Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire, Yangli College, Longleng and Kohima Arts College, Kohima.
This was announced by Governor Shyamal Datta in his address at the Republic Day Celebration in Kohima Thursday.
Datta said that such a step had been taken with the objective of improving the quality of higher education in the backward areas of Longleng, Kiphire and Peren.
Also, Bills for establishment of two new private universities namely, the Global Open (Nagaland) University and the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (Nagaland) University were introduced in the state assembly during the last winter session and these are expected to be passed in the coming budget session.
“It is a matter of great joy and happiness that the Patkai Christian College has earned the distinction of being the first college in the North East, to have been conferred the autonomous status by the University Grant Commission,” Datta added.
