Govt. willing to hand over NPSC case to CBI

KOHIMA, AUG 18 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphu Rio today stated that the government was willing to hand over the NPSC case to the CBI if the investigation by the Vigilance Commission was found dissatisfactory.

Replying to a query raised by Congress MLA Takamasa at the assembly session, Rio said the Government had ordered for an open inquiry into the allegation against the NPSC’s functioning by appointing Benjamin Newmai, tribunal for disciplinary proceedings in the Vigilance Commission as the Inquiry Officer.

The Inquiry officer has since submitted his report, which is being followed up by the Government as well as the investigation team of the Vigilance Commission.

The Investigative Wing of the Vigilance Commission had also separately registered a criminal case of corruption and investigated into the allegations, which ultimately led to eight persons being charge-sheeted.

”Details of the investigation and the charge-sheets are sub-judice at the moment, being under trial in the court of law”, Rio informed.

Earlier, Rio said the State government was yet to receive from any person or persons any specific allegation of corruptions except certain reports in the media containing vague allegations of malpractices in the functioning of the NPSC.

However, he said, a report has been received from NPSC themselves that one of their employees, Imnaonen (casual LDA) was implicated and discharged from service for attempting to bribe the Controller of Examination.

Rio said the details were being investigated by the Vigilance Commission, which has since filed charge sheets against 8 persons in the court of DC (Judicial) Dimapur under various sections of IPC and PCA for indulging in corrupt activities.

Regretting that the Vigilance Commission was under-staffed, Opposition leader I. Imkong said efficient staff was required and he asked the Chief Minister to create more post in the Vigilance Commission.

Responding to MLA Takamasa on how examination fees amounting to around Rs 4-5 lakhs was being utilized by the NPSC, the Chief Minister assured that if there were any lapse, the government would look into it.
