Government Polytechnic Kohima students and faculty attend an awareness programme on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kohima on August 13.
Kohima, August 13 (MExN): Government Polytechnic Kohima (GPK) conducted an awareness programme on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Nagaland at the institute auditorium on August 13, with over 200 students and 15 faculty and staff members participating.
The programme focused on the importance of maintaining an updated electoral roll and encouraging young citizens to participate actively in the electoral process. Senior Lecturer and Nodal Officer for Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), N Yibenthung Tungoe, explained the purpose and objectives of the SIR exercise and the role of electors in completing and submitting the Enumeration Form (EF).
Tungoe also outlined the schedule for the SIR exercise in Nagaland and familiarised participants with the relevant digital platforms and helpline facilities available for assistance. He encouraged the students to equip themselves with accurate information about the electoral process so that they could also assist community members who may face difficulties in completing the SIR process.
The programme also marked the launch of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at Government Polytechnic Kohima. Principal Keyiekhru Rhutso officially announced the formation of the club, which comprises a nodal officer, two campus ambassadors and 12 members.
The programme was led by Sentiya Kath, a fifth-semester Computer Science and Engineering student and campus ambassador. Vile S Sangtam, a fifth-semester Civil Engineering student, delivered the welcome address, while Meigang Konyak, a first-semester Computer Science and Engineering student, proposed the vote of thanks. The establishment of the ELC is intended to promote electoral awareness and civic participation among students at the institute.
