DIMAPUR, JULY 27 (MExN): Lt Gen M.B Neokpao Konyak will be the new Naga Army Chief with Brig. Samson Aye as the Deputy Chief. This was informed in a press note issued by the MIP GPRN/NSCN. In this regard, a special prayer programme was conducted at a Joint Council meeting at the Oking to bless the new Commander-in-Chief, Dy. Commander-in-Chief and General Staff Officer (GSO I) of the Naga Army.
Gen. (Retd.) Khole Konyak, the President of the GPRN, in consultation with the National Security Council has appointed Lt. Gen Neokpao Konyak to succeed him as the next Commander-in-Chief of the Naga Army, informed the press note. The order issued through memo no. APP/NA/1-1/2011-12, described the new Commander-in-Chief as a distinguished military officer with unblemished track record over the past three decades in the Naga Army. GPRN/NSCN President Gen. (Retd) Khole Konyak expressed hope that the new Army Chief, a simple yet astute military man would guide the Naga Army in defending the Nation.
President Gen. (Retd) Khole appointed Brig. Samson Aye as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Naga Army. His strong character and unwavering commitment to the Nation was duly acknowledged and recognised. “He is an ideal man to impart, instil and ensure that Naga army remains strong in spirit and purpose”, informed the MIP note.
Brig. Vihoto Chophy was appointed as the General Staff Officer I (GSO I) of the Naga Army. He was described as an “experienced soldier who would not part with revolutionary ethics” and that as a “firm believer in the right of the Nagas, he would instil order and discipline in true revolutionary tradition”.
