Dimapur, March 24 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN on March 24 denied its involvement in the March 22 Peren incident in which three people were killed by armed assailants and properties were destroyed.
Expressing sadness at the incident, the GPRN/NSCN also stated that “It is very unfortunate to learn that some prominent Zeliang leaders have express their views on the unfortunate loss of lives through tribal and factional angle.”
Citing a local TV news report where “President Zeme Council Nagaland has accused the GPRN/NSCN cadres of committing the act,” the GPRN/NSCN said it was ‘uncalled for’ and termed it an attempt to tarnish the good relations between GPRN/NSCN and the Zeliangrong people.
“GPRN/NSCN denies any involvement, either civil or military workers, in the incident,” it stated in a press release issued through its MIP on Wednesday.
It reminded that “GPRN/NSCN is the only Naga political group which understands and recognises the legitimate right of Zeliangrong people be it in Nagaland, Manipur or Assam. This is demonstrated by the very fact that a Zeliangrong representative attends all Indo-Naga political talks.”
The GPRN/NSCN further said that it would be a mockery of the greater common Naga endeavour if an inter-village boundary dispute is allowed to spiral into ‘a tribal and factional one-upmanship game’.
Meanwhile, through the press release, the GPRN/NSCN also mourned the death of the three persons who were killed at Lamhainamdi Village and conveyed its condolences to the families and community as a whole.
