GPRN/NSCN not procuring arms from Myanmar: WC, NNPGs

Urge security forces to respect and understand ‘Agreed Position’ signed between GoI and Naga people

Dimapur, September 19 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on Sunday refuted what it termed as ‘unfounded allegation’ made by Indian intelligence agencies that the GPRN/NSCN is procuring arms from Myanmar. It also censured the security forces in the state for provoking Naga political groups and “making mockery of the political negotiations and the possible solution.”

“Indian agencies have a habit of cooking up stories to destabilise the Indo-Naga peace process. This could be one reason,” the WC, NNPGs Media Cell stated in a press release.

However, the WC, NNPGs noted that Naga populace in Myanmar are undergoing untold misery at the hands of Burmese junta and it would continue to give humanitarian assistance.

The arrest and killing of innocent civilians have risen sharply since the junta usurped the democratically elected government in February 2021, and thousands of Naga people have fled their homes, pouring into Indian side of Naga homeland, it said.

In this connection, the WC, NNPGs asserted that it would not seek anyone’s permission “when our brothers and sisters are facing acute humanitarian crisis,” and continue to assist the people with first aid, food, clothing and shelter which are basic human requirements.

“Let Indian military agencies invent stories as they wish. We will continue to offer medicines and other basic needs to our people. Humanitarian assistance to our suffering brethren is our only humble activity and our right,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the release stated that the WC, NNPGs is also seriously viewing the activities of the Security Forces in conducting multiple raids on the residences of senior Naga National workers affiliated to various political groups within WC, NNPGs. It claimed that raids on Lt Col Ngukato (NSCN/GPRN-Khango/Isak) have been conducted four times within a fortnight and likewise pre-dawn raids on the residence of Khekato Kilonser (NSCN-R) have happened four times in September.

Stating that similar raids are happening each day with no rhyme or reason, the WC, NNPGs underscored that the “Ceasefire mechanism is in place and at critical time such as the present time in the Naga history, security forces must respect and understand the ‘Agreed Position’ between the Government of India (GoI) and the Naga people.”

“Security Forces must not run amok at this hour, making mockery of the political negotiations and the possible solution. CFMG Chairman must disseminate the status of the political talks to the military commanders on the ground,” it asserted, while adding that this would ensure that the military strategists on the ground are on the same page as the Prime Minister and Home Minister on the Indo-Naga issue.
