As uncertainty and apprehensions emerge in trying times, so does hope and humanity. In one such emergence, "The Humane Movement"- a Coronavirus Reach Out Fund (CROF) is being initiated by the Green Team Kohima (GTK). The movement attempts to arrange resources through crowdfunding to provide affected families and communities with access to food.

"We believe that “Now is the time to double down for our affected community”. While the pandemic can be contained, hunger and starvation can't be postponed or kept on hold," affirms the GTK.

With the countrywide lockdown, including Nagaland, many lives and families, that of daily wage earners, are being affected.

"Many individuals and families have already been affected by the outbreak and related closures and more will continue to be affected," says the Team.

Through crowdfunding, the GTK will purchase rations for affected families with identification of families currently underway in all the wards. Sponsors can donate money for groceries such rice, salt, dal, pulses. With the lockdown and lack of transportation, contributions can be made through googlepay or internet banking (20077187886 (AtunuoHiekha) SBI Bazaar branch Kohima. IFSC Code: SBINOSBINOOO6485). "GTK aims to work as a catalyst within affected people and those willing to help out but cannot involve directly. We are looking for goodwill for one family or more according to one's ability," appeals the team.

"We are calling it a humane movement. Humane because we are doing out of pure compassion and love. Movement because it's time we make humanity as a movement," says ViketunoAtunoHiekha, member, GTK.

The Green Team Kohima is a community of concerned citizens which has been crusading on a cleaner environment in Kohima town in recent times. Its work involves voluntary community service and awareness building. As part of their voluntary service, the Green Team Kohima waters and maintains the plants in the box cutting area in Kohima town.

The GTK recently launched its '22 DAYS INITIATIVE' on March 7 inviting all concern citizens to commit 2 Saturdays a month in cleaning up Kohima. For the team, the initiative will not be confined to Clean Ups alone but efforts will be made in building 'attitudinal change' which will ultimately bring behavioural change.

However, for now the team will be focusing on The Humane Movement. "This pandemic has made us to move out of our green initiatives which is our primary objective to reach out to people who need a helping hand," stated the team.
