Dimapur, August 30 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) observed the ‘89th Martyrdom Anniversary’ on August 29 at ZSUM, Imphal, a press release informed.
With the determination of the Government of India (GoI) to conclude the Indo-Naga political issue, President of the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) said that the GoI should make a special political arrangement for the Zeliangrongs living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland in recognition of the sacrifice of Haipou Jadonang and the contribution of Rani Gaidinliu towards India’s freedom movement.
The ZCOs reminded the GoI to translate into action the assurance given during the 87th Martyrdom Anniversary by the Manipur Chief Minister regarding the “matter of granting state holiday on the Haipou Jadonang Martyr Day.”
RYC: The Rongmei Youth Club (RYC) Dimapur observed Martyr’s Day commemorating the 89th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang on August 29 at Rongmei Customary Court, Dimapur.
“It was on this day that the legendary leader Haipou Jadonang was hanged to death by the British colonial rulers,” the RYC said in a statement.
Panti Kamei, Member Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) spoke on the topic ‘What can we learn from Jadonang’s Life’ and challenged the gathering to live with a cause R Kamei, Chairman Ragailong Colony, Dimapur also spoke on the freedom struggle of Haipou Jadonang.
The RYC informed that the gathering was conducted while adhering to the COVID-19 standard operating protocols.
ZSUD, ZWAD: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Delhi (ZSUD) and the Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD) also observed the day via Zoom under the theme ‘The Vision of Haipou Jadonang and its relevance in contemporary Zeliangrong society’.
The meeting started with an opening remark by Isaac Charenamai, General Secretary of Naga Students' Union, Delhi who was also the anchor of the meeting.
A lamp was lit by Benjamine Pamei, President, ZWAD as homage to the Haipou Jadonang, followed by mass singing of Zeliangrong Anthem led by the executives of ZSUD and ZWAD.
