
DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): Dimapur Police arrested five persons in two separate incidents on November 23 and 24. According to a statement from the police, four persons said to be “henchmen” of the NSCN/GPRN Isak-Muivah were arrested on November 24. Identified as Abdul Hassim alias Hasssim (34 years), Khumtsa Achumi (29 years), Bilal Uddin (27 years) and Aqlak-Uddin, all presently residing at Dimapur; the four were involved in collecting monthly taxes for the NSCN/GPRN from ‘Gumti (Pan shops) business establishments’ in Dimapur and Kohima.
Interrogation of the four revealed that Hasssim was authorized by the NSCN (IM) to collect monthly tax of Rs.500 per basket of betel leaves from all ‘Gumti shops’ located in Dimapur and Kohima. The money collected amounting to around Rs. 5 lakh was then handed over to one Jacob Poumai, a self-styled “Additional Secretary of Chaplee, NSCN/GPRN.” Based on their statements, police further raided a house at Murghipatti, which was said to have been used as a base ‘office’ for their criminal acts. During the raid police recovered one .32 pistol with magazine and three rounds of ammunition along with cash amounting to Rs.31,208, three booklets of ‘Tax Receipt Books of 100 leaves each, fifty numbers of tax information slips, two copies of information slips of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Nagalim issued by one self-styled ‘Lt.Gen (Rtd)’ H.S Ramsan, a ‘Keya Kilonser GPRN’, and a list of ‘Gumti Shop’ owners of Dimapur and Kohima.
Police also seized two mobile phones and one car (A-Star) bearing registration number NL 07 C 2373 from their possession. All four were booked under the relevant sections of law and forwarded to court for remand to aid further investigation into the case.
Earlier on November 23, a joint team of DEF and IRB personnel arrested a hardcore criminal, wanted in several criminal cases. The arrest was made from Super Market. Identified as Nitoyi Achumi (40 years), a self-styled ‘Razou Peyu’ of the NSCN (IM), he was wanted in two separated cases of armed robbery and looting, kidnappings and vehicle theft.
According to the police statement, one of his many criminal cases involved looting at gunpoint a sum of Rs.1,95,000 and snatching of two mobile phones from T.K Gas agency located at Purana Bazaar on November 8 2010. The second one involved snatching of a motor-cycle at Midland colony, also at gunpoint on November 7, 2011, while decamping with the riders personal belongings. “The accused is suspected to be involved in some kidnapping cases in Dimapur and also in the snatching and theft of vehicles at gunpoint in and around Dimapur. The accused has been remanded to custody and investigation is going on in this connection.”
