A monolith in memory of Late Khekho Ashuhe Krubve, the founding member of Ashuhe Mao Colony under Kuda Village (B khel), was unveiled on Monday to commemorate 75 years of settlement of the Colony.
Khekho Ashuhe Krubve, son of Dili Khekho Krubve and Hrushoro Chache and wife Losa Chakre, together with Pfokrehe Khekho, Adani Khekho and Niloni Khekho were the founders of Ashuhe Mao colony.
Advisor, Kuda Village Council and former president of Naga Council Dimapur, Asavi Liegise, unveiled the monolith in presence of elders and authorities of Kuda Village and sons, daughters and descendants of Late Khekho and brothers.
Asavi, whose father Late Rokokerhe Liegise was also a founding member of Kuda Village, in his address said peaceful co-existence and harmony amongst neighbours and communities is one of the greatest blessings of God.
Asavi said every village and settlement has its own history and struggles. In the case of Kuda village, he said the pioneers and founding members were from poor and humble backgrounds. Quoting from the Book of Joshua, he said the pioneers of Kuda Village had the vision to toil hard in the land they settled for future posterity.
On the significance of erecting monoliths, the Kuda VC advisor said the practice had been there since the Biblical times (cf. Joshua 4: 20-21).
“Public memory is short and we tend to forget our pioneers whose sacrifices have made our lives easier and better. Monoliths will help refresh our memories of our pioneers,” Asavi said. He also said the lives of pioneers would touch and inspire future generations. Asavi further recalled Late Khekho Ashuhe as a huge man with a deep voice but a man of integrity.
A human rights activist and a senior resident of the colony, who also shared a short message acknowledged the contributions of the Khekho family and affirmed that the harmonious co-existence in Ashuhe Mao Colony was a blessing to all residents.
Earlier, Lohe Khekho, son of Late Khekho Ashuhe, gave a brief background of the monolith. GB of Kuda ‘B’ khel, Peter Khekho, son of Late Pfokrehe Khekho, conveyed words of gratitude. The programme started with prayer of thanksgiving by Yapangla Khekho and Neikezienuo Khekho pronounced dedicatory prayer.
Ashuhe Mao colony land settlement allotment was sanctioned and issued by the then deputy commissioner of Naga Hills, SJ Duncan, in September 1949.
Late Khekho Ashuhe was one of the founding members of Kuda village in 1945 and also a founding member of the Naga Council with which he was actively associated from 1960 to 1995. He served in the NNC till 1964. He was also a founding member of Tenyimia Union Dimapur.
Meanwhile, the descendants of Khekho Ashuhe Krubve have conveyed their indebtness to Late Nimedo Sakhrie, Late Rokokerhe Liegise and Late Ketholelhou Khate, for “the support of friendship during the years of shared struggle in the early part of the settlement.”
