Hazi park traders allege assault by DMC ‘henchman’

Dimapur, August 30 (MExN): Merchants and traders at Hazi Market in Dimapur today clarified that yesterday’s closure of shop and market was due to alleged assault of a shopkeeper by one person “a henchman of DMC Advisor Tokheli Kikon.” A note from the Hazi Market Welfare Committee named one person called Toviho from Naharbari as the one responsible for the assault.
“This is not the first occasion that this individual has been creating problems for the business community on the instigation of the said DMC advisor. This trend of harboring private army needs not only to be discouraged but strongly condemned by all section of the society,” stated the note. The note was appended by the committee’s president I Pihoto Awomi. “When it comes to flexing of muscles, it can be practiced by anyone but one needs to refrain from such tendencies,” the committee explained.
The committee said a complaint was lodged with the Chief Executive Officer of the Dimapur Municipal Council after the incident. “She has assured the HMWC in front of the president chamber of commerce and industries, Dimapur that action will be initiated against the errant DMC advisor who without the prior permission of the CEO launched the operation on her own volition.”
The role of an advisor is to “assist and advice” the committee claimed, and said “its sole responsibility of the CEO to give orders.” However, the committee said, in the case of the DMC ‘it seems to be the other way round’. Nonetheless, the merchants are optimistic ‘that the new CEO will be able to rein in the unconstitutional power abuse by some individuals.’
