DIMAPUR, JANUARY 22 (MExN): The Gauhati High Court has issued notice to the Nagaland Government and the Nagaland Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) with regard to implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission in the State.
The order was passed by the court on January 19 in relation to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Global Trust Club, Chizami alleging non-implementation of schemes such as Swachh Bharat Mission in Nagaland in spite of funds being given by the Government of India for the said purposes.
The PIL said that as a result of this “development work, particularly relating to supply of drinking water to rural areas and other such works of public purposes are not being properly implemented in the State of Nagaland.
After hearing the petitioners, a bench comprising of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Achintya Mala Bujor Barua observed: “We are, prima facie, of the opinion that the petition raises an issue of public importance. Consequently, we issue notices in this case.”
The respondents have been asked to file their counter affidavit within a period of 3 weeks from January 19. The petition was filed against the Union of India, the State of Nagaland, Chief Engineer PHED Nagaland, Executive Engineer PHED Phek division, and Sub Divisional Officer Phek.
