DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare has asked municipal authorities to cancel the trade license of optical shops run by unqualified persons. A notice issued by the Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, further asked municipal authorities not to issue any trade license to anybody without valid registration certificate of ophthalmologists with NMC registration and the Nagaland Optometric Association. “It is observed that there are many optical shops operating in the state without qualified eye care professional. These optical shops are dispensing power glasses without the help of eye care professionals such as ophthalmologists, optometrists and ophthalmic assistants which is illegal as wrong prescription of power glasses could permanently endanger the eye sight,” the notice stated. It informed that most of these shops are operating with mere trade license issued by municipal authorities.
