Health dept notifies medicine dealers

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 3 (MExN): The Nagaland State Health and Family Welfare Department today cautioned all concerned against dealing in sub-standard, adulterated, spurious and misbranded drugs in the market, which is a threat to patient's health and economy. It further informed all concerned that transactions on medicines at all level will be effectively monitored.  

A notice from the department informed that the Government of India has enhanced the offence of dealing in such drugs/medicines with an imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years but shall be extended upto life imprisonment and fine of not less than Rs.10,00,000 or three times the value of the drugs confiscated, whichever is more, to have maximum deterrence.  

It further stated that medicines are sensitive products and air attested adversely by light, moisure, temperature, motion, suspended particulates etc. The department therefore directed dealers to strictly comply with the storage conditions/directions issued as per the said Rules.  

Any dealer found in violation will be punished as per the appropriate section of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, it cautioned.
