Health orgs want UG cadre arrested

Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): Terming “enough” the continuous threats, intimidation and extortion activities of underground activists against Health personnel, the state’s Health organizations today demanded capture of the cadre responsible for threatening a health officer during an attempt to extort, on April 8, 2011. If the cadre is not captured within 15 days and the underground groups do not ‘rein in their extortion activities’, all health and medical establishments would be shut down indefinitely, organizations under the Health & Family Welfare administration declared today.
Threatens with health centers’ shutdown
Doctors, officers and staffs of the department of Health & Family Welfare issued a joint statement expressing frustration on the incident of ‘attempted murder’ of a DDO of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare. In spite of the constant aggravation, leaders of the “national workers” have failed to take note of the “mess” crated by their cadres and have also failed to rein on “these happy extortion spree individuals, the statement said.
“There is a limit in everything and we now feel that we have had enough,” the health personnel reminded.
“Now, therefore, if the authority fails to arrest the culprit of the 8th April 2011 incident within 15 days with effect from the date of this communication and the authorities in various national workers groups failing to rein on their cadres and put restrictions on extortion spree, the doctors and staffs of the department of Health & Family Welfare may consider closing down of all Health establishment under the department of Health & Family Welfare indefinitely,” the organizations have declared.
The medical and health workers expressed anguish that anti-socials are allowed freely to extort from various departments under the guise of so-called “national workers.” These underground workers have no hesitation to pull trigger at any individual who demand rational discussions, the Nagaland in-service Doctor’s Association (NIDA) and Ministerial Staff Association of the department stated.
In spite of various forms of democratic protest, these anti-social and extortion activities have not declined, they lamented. “Sanity has disappeared and the general public is put on ransom by few under the direct supervision and protection of the leaders of various groups of national workers. On 8th April 2011, some armed miscreants intruded into the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare and attempted to extort money from DDO at gunpoint. If it was not for the other staffs intervention one of the dignified senior officers would have been murdered in broad daylight on that day,” the two organizations stated.
An FIR was lodged with the North Police Station on the same day “with great expectation that these anti-socials would be arrested at the earliest, but to this day they are still at large.” In fact, the organizations reminded, there has been continuous disturbances by these elements in the day to day functions of the department even after this serious incident not only in the directorate but in all Health establishments in Nagaland.
“In spite of these happenings, leaders of national workers have failed to take note of the mess emulsified by their cadres and have failed to rein on these happy extortion spree individuals. There is a limit in everything and we now feel that we have had enough,” the health personnel stated.
