Heavy rains and strong winds predicted over following week

KOHIMA, MAY 27 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has informed that heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is expected in the state over the following week. 


Several other weather conditions will be seen during this time along with hefty showers, an advisory from Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Lhouchalie Viya stated. 


Thunderstorm with Lightning accompanied with gusty wind speed between 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang. However, normal rain and thundershowers will continue in the remaining parts of the state which is expected to become intense and last for a few days.


“The next few days Nagaland will experience heavy rains and strong winds and also the possibility of flash floods, as well as landslides. Lightning strikes will also be a common feature during this time and these showers are expected to continue over the state of Nagaland till June 2,” the NSDMA stated. 


It asked all DDMAs and other line departments who are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities to be on alert to save lives and properties during this period.     


The NSDMA also urged the public to be vigilant during this monsoon period from lightning, gusty winds and thunderstorms. Public have been asked not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks.
