HEC India Act 2018 protest: College teachers on mass casual leave today

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): Heeding to the call of the All India Federation of University and College Teachers Organization (AIFUCTO), the All Nagaland Government College Teachers Association (ANGCTA) along with the university and college teachers across the country will remain on mass casual leave on Friday, August 3, 2018.  

The mass casual leave is in protest against the proposed Higher Education Commission of India Act, 2018 and other issues effecting the future of higher education and hurting the interest of teaching and teachers community in the country, a press release issued by ANGCTA president Lily Angami and general secretary Dr Kekhriseno Christina informed.  

At the call of AIFUCTO, university and college teachers will observe a simultaneous massive dharna and rally on the same day at Delhi. Thousands of teachers from across the country will congregate at New Delhi, Parliament Street to voice their demands and grievances, the press release stated.  

Some of the main demands of AIFUCTO include immediate withdrawal of HEC India Act 2018, cent percent central assistance to the states for simultaneous and uniform implementation of 7th UGC pay scale across the country, uniform pay scale and service condition for ad hoc, part time, contractual, guest and block grant teachers, permanent appointments in all vacant post in universities and colleges, stop privatization/commercialization and corporatization of education.
