Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that it is high time for the State to review the reservation policy by way of including or removing some tribes and areas in the policy and making adjustments in the allocation of percentages.

Replying to a supplementary question raised by MLA Yitachu on the floor of the house, seeking certain technical posts to backward people, Rio, said “The cabinet has to review all these things after the completion of the next census operation” so that “we can do correct things and bring a new policy where it will satisfy maximum persons who are demanding reservation for inclusion or removal.”

The policy will come after the completion of the next census operation, Rio said.

Earlier, Yitachu said that there are certain technical posts in various departments which are conducted by NPSC or recruitment boards; many a times, it is reported that there is no reservation for backward people.

In this, he requested Chief Minister that in those cases, particularly involving technical experts, it also need to be extended to backward people.

On being asked the type of technical posts which do not provide backward reservation for recruitment, Rio replied the starred question that under the standing policy of the state government, 20% of gazetted/technical posts are unreserved where reservation for any category are not provided for recruitment.

Reservation for both the indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland and the Backward tribes are against the 80% of the gazetted/technical posts, Rio replied.
