Hill Theatre’s ‘The case of Longti Village’ earns 'rave reviews' in New Delhi

DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): Northeast Theatre Festival, Poorvottar Rashtriya Natya Samaroh 2024, organised by National School of Drama, New Delhi was held from March 27-30 in New Delhi. The festival featured a variety of plays from Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland, which were performed in three different venues -National School of Drama, Bharatmuni Natyagrih CCRT Dwarka & Bharati College University of Delhi.

‘The Case of Longti Village’ a Nagaland production from page to stage, which is an adaptation of the novel by Sentilong Ozukum, was performed under the direction of Bendang Walling, founder of Hill Theatre at the National School of Drama and in Bharatmuni Natyagrih, Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Dwarka.

The show was staged by fifteen theatrical artist of Hill Theatre along with Limanungdang Longchar as production designer and Bikash from Assam on the lightings.

The theatre festival was inaugurated by Dr Sachidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Robin Hibu, IPS ADG of Police, New Delhi was the guest of honour. Welcome address was delivered by Chittaranjan Tripathy, Director National School of Drama.

Naga Student Union representatives from Delhi and students from Jawaharlal Nehru University who witnessed the show gave rave reviews on the play and performance, informed a press release. 

“The case of Longti village’ is a very well-put depiction of many aspects of the Naga society. It blends entertainment with meaningful moral messages all through the play,” remarked Ayan, a student of Linguistics JNU.

“It was a memorable experience to witness a performance that not only gave representation to Nagaland, but also highlighted the issues that affect the people living there. Everything from the production to the script was carefully constructed, and the actors also gave an enthralling performance,” stated Chawngthanpuü, a student of International Relations and Areas Studies, JNU.

“To portray the contrasting lives of man when greed flows through his veins, the subtle conflicts of faith and science is both captivating and smart directing,” were the words from Pangertoshi Walling, Molecular Medicine student, JNU.

“For a person who has never seen any theatre performance before 'The case of Longti village' a play adapted and directed by Bendang Walling has given me a first-time experience of watching theatre. And yes, it did not disappoint me. What resonated strongly is that each narrative and characters are astute clearly. This play was immensely satisfying and i would wholeheartedly recommend others to watch it,” stated Kuyi Thuzu from SAIACS, Bangalore.
