90.8 Hills FM has partnered with the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), Nagaland in a venture to promote home-grown artists. The collaborative venture will have Hills FM presenting a special one-hour programme, weekly, featuring home-grown music of any artist and genre, including indigenous folk art.
According to Imali Hesso, Managing Director of 90.8 Hills FM, the programme — Hills FM presents TaFMA Thursday— will start airing from May 11, every Thursday, in the 6-7:00 pm slot. Hesso said that the venture, in concept, seeks to feature the works of a different or new artist every week and even having the artist live in person in the studio. She said that the platform would provide a dedicated space for promoting local artists. The debut episode of the programme will feature Moko Koza.
One of the voices behind Hills FM, Vitono Gugu Haralu, Radio Jockey & Mentor, while welcoming any artistic content, said, “We are creating this platform for stakeholders, artists to take advantage of.”
As a community radio station, 90.8 Hills FM is owned, operated and driven by the communities it serves. A media handout added, “This new venture will also help local artists gain support from the community, which is easily accessible through the radio station.”
90.8 Hills FM was initiated by an NGO and inaugurated on September 8, 2022. It currently covers Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima and other adjoining areas, including parts of Assam. The radio station produces content that is relevant to the community it serves but also touches on issues that are pertinent globally, regardless of the demographic environment.
The handout said that the partnership with TaFMA is a step towards fulfilling the vision of 90.8 Hills FM to be the voice of the people and support the local community. This collaboration is a win-win for both parties, as local artists will have a platform to showcase their music and the radio station will have access to a rich pool of talent to promote and encourage.
“It provides a platform for enabling individuals, groups, and communities to share experiences and become active creators and contributors to the community. We produce content that is relevant to our community but also touches on issues pertinent globally regardless of the demographic environment.”
