Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung, in collaboration with NSACS, organized a 5-location HIV/AIDS awareness flash mob across Mokokchung town.
Mokokchung, September 29 (MExN): Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung, under the aegis of the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), organised an HIV/AIDS awareness flash mob across five locations in Mokokchung town on September 29, focusing on HIV prevention, testing, treatment and reducing stigma and discrimination.
Held under the theme ‘Know, Test, Treat, Support,’ the campaign began at Jubilee Memorial College and moved to Police Point, MMC Complex, Public Ground Area and Sewak Gate Area. Students used dance, drama and awareness messages to engage the public on HIV/AIDS.
Fourteen students and three faculty members participated in the initiative, which was estimated to have reached around 500–600 people across the five locations, a press release from the college stated. The campaign highlighted the importance of informed choices, early HIV testing and timely treatment. It also emphasised the role of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) in helping people living with HIV lead healthy and productive lives.
The students also sought to dispel misconceptions about HIV transmission, conveying that HIV is not spread through casual contact such as shaking hands, hugging, sharing food or sitting together. The public was encouraged to rely on accurate information and treat people living with HIV with dignity and respect.
The participating faculty members were Dr Chubaienla Imchen, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics; Molongnenla Pongen, Assistant Professor, Department of History; and Yimnayanger Aier, Counsellor.
The campaign also highlighted the role of young people in promoting awareness and reducing stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
