Shillong | September 24 : It is a matter of great concern observing the happening in the Langpih area where the local people are being victimized at the hands of the Nepalese, said the HNLC today. In a press communiqué issued by its publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw, the HNLC said it is turning out into a serious issue as the state government of Meghalaya is not taking the required step to ensure the safety of the local people. "When the state security agency find itself in such helpless condition when its own people are constantly placed under harassment by the outside intruders, what is expected to happen in defence of the Langpih people? The consequence of neglecting the people can take into undesirable shape and may not come as something welcome for the state government," said Sainkupar Nongtraw.
The HNLC leader alleged that under the situation Langpih people are suffering so much at the hands of the people who have intruded from Assam side. "We cannot remain silent but to show solidarity to the Langpih people. We urge the Nepalese community not to create any troubles in Langpih and if they continue to attack to our local people and disturb their peaceful existence we can also hit back in the same manner and target the Nepalese people in the other parts of the State," said the HNLC statement.
It is unfortunate that both Assam and Meghalaya find themselves helpless to solve the conflict in the border areas and looking across the border by appeasing the Bangladesh Government at the cost of the democratic rights of the people in the states, the HNLC. "They should have taken genuine interest into its own problems as encountered by the people from day to day life otherwise the recent visit of the prime minister and chief ministers to Bangladesh was nothing but it's just a show off business," accused the HNLC.
It then said the state government must take into consideration that the people in border areas are bonafide citizen of the state and they deserved to be treated equally like any other people in the state. But when this is not forthcoming who can stop when some other means are adopted by the people to defend themselves.
