Home Minister Imchen calls for eradication of tribalism

Kohima | September 30 : Minister for home Imkong L. Imchen today expressed deep concern over the practice of tribalism in the Naga society and stressed on the need to collectively ponder over the issue in a serious way. He asserted that the evil of tribalism is within the Naga society, which required to be eradicated. He regretted that instead of eradicating the evil of tribalism “we are developing even deeper” and termed it as a serious matter. Home minister also stated that this element of tribalism also exists even in church.
Addressing the 32nd fresher’ social 2011 of Kohima Law College Students’ Union (KLCSU) here today at the State Academy Hall, the home minister stated that lawyers are very successful politicians, ministers, MLAs, adding that those legislators without law background find difficult to function. Stating that many related problems- crimes are there in the Naga society today, he stressed on the need to firmly tackle the same under the law. Nagaland, he said, has peculiar situation as it has customary law system. He maintained that customary law works in tremendous way in the Naga society. In rural areas, it is mostly govern by Naga customary law. He continued that the Naga customary law has a wide perspective, which deals with civil and criminal cases including the murder. In the meantime, he was appreciative of all freshers and hoped that they will become the legal luminary in the country and also become an eminent constitutional lawyer.
Imchen was also hopeful that they will become legal consultant of the state and under their endeavour the law will be tremendous and extremely beneficial to the Naga society.
