Maligaon, August 25 (MExN): The 98th meeting of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) was held at Maligaon on August 25, highlighting infrastructure and connectivity initiatives across the North-East.
Nagaland was represented by Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak and MLA A Pongshi Phom. MPs and legislators from other Northeastern States, senior government officials, railway users’ associations and other stakeholders also attended.
Presiding over the meeting, NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava invited suggestions on railway services and assured members that their inputs would receive due consideration. He highlighted ongoing connectivity projects aimed at strengthening rail links and improving connectivity to Northeastern State capitals.
Shrivastava outlined NFR’s progress in railway electrification, expansion of train services, additional stoppages and infrastructure development. Railway electrification has reached 4,170 route kilometres, while 15 new train services and over 250 additional stoppages have been introduced, according to the NFR.
He also highlighted increased budgetary support and progress on major projects, including railway projects in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, the Bairabi–Sairang project, doubling works up to Tinsukia and the new Saraighat Bridge.
NFR is also redeveloping 92 stations under the Amrit Station Scheme and expanding passenger amenities, including ATVMs, water vending machines and QR-based ticketing. Freight and logistics infrastructure is being strengthened through Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals and the Jogighopa Multi Modal Logistics Park.
The MPs and MLAs placed suggestions regarding railway services and infrastructure, with Shrivastava assuring that feasible proposals would be considered and implemented in a phased manner based on priorities and feasibility.
He reaffirmed NFR’s commitment to building a safe, modern and passenger-friendly railway system. The meeting concluded with discussions on strengthening connectivity and improving passenger services across the region, an NFR release informed.
