A co-ordination meeting with the concerned Departments in connection with the celebration of Hornbill Festival was held in the residential office of the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio on September 13. The meeting was attended by the AHODs & HODs of concerned Departments. The discussion was initiated by Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism Department, I. Himato Zhimomi.
In the meeting the following action points were discussed and decided: the Director, NEZCC has agreed to facilitate the cultural activities on the December 2 dedicated to the North Eastern Region. The Industries Department suggested that the Department be allowed to select the Entrepreneurs for the Handicrafts and Handloom sector. The Chief Minister agreed to it and stated that no TA/DA should be paid for participants and also added that participation should be on commercial terms as the Festival was perfect venue for advertising and selling their goods. Horticulture Department was informed to organize a Flower Show and Exhibition-cum-sale of Fruits and Vegetables as previous years.
It was decided to entrust YRS Department/XL Nagaland/various concerned associations for organizing the Naga Indigenous Games such as Naga Chilly Eating Competition, Greased Bamboo pole climbing, Archery, Naga Wrestling, Kick Boxing, “Top” spinning etc. Another new addition in the indigenous games category this year will be the Cured Pork Fat Eating Contest.
It was also decided that the Convoy of the “World War -II Vintage Rally” proposed to be organized on December 2, with Niathu Resort, Chumukedima as the starting point of the Convoy of Antique vehicles such as Jeeps, Bedfords, Dodges, with participants dressed in World War-II Battle Fatigues and dummy arms shall proceed to World War-II Museum at Kisama. It was further decided that the NAMSA (Nagaland Adventure & Motor Sports Association) shall be responsible for organizing the Convoy as well as publicity preceding the Event.
The Chief Minister also instructed the Tourism / Industries Department that the Food Courts should not only serve Indian and Continental but few Food Stalls should be selected for serving Naga Cuisine. The “Hornbill Charity Ball” will be organized as previous year, at the Heritage Bamboo Hall on December 3. Art & Culture Department would continue with running of an Archives Stall for sale and display of their publication in Naga Heritage Village Kisama.
Utilization/Allocation of Hornbill Bamboo Hall was decided as follows: December 3- Hornbill Charity Ball, December 4- Hornbill Fashion Show, December 5- Hornbill Literature Festival and December 7-Hornbill Photo Competition.
The Chief Minister Nagaland also informed that Bamboo Mission is to set up a Bamboo Cross at Mt. Kisama and the expenditure will be borne by the concerned department. A Painter's Corner will be set up where professional painters will paint portraits of Naga Heritage Village, Kisama etc. It was also decided to keep the venue for the Hornbill Music Festival at the IG Stadium. In lieu of the music festival venue change, it was decided to request the respective Tribal Hohos to bring folk musicians/fusion musicians in their respective Morungs to entertain visitors during the evenings at the Hornbill Festival. Every Morung is to be requested to set up commercial Counter for Exhibition-cum-sale of indigenous products.
It was decided to have the usual “NIGHT BAZAR” (Razhu Point to old Taxi Stand) Lighting from Mission Compound point to Taxi Stand has to be done by Power department.
