How not to construct a road—The sorry state of National Highway in Nagaland

Nearly a hundred vehicles mostly transport trucks and taxis and some private vehicles were stranded on the National Highway 61 near Chiechama when a mini-truck trying to cross a tricky stretch of road prone to mudslides was trapped in the highway. It is learnt that the truck transporting chicken to some place was stranded around midnight on Wednesday night. After clearing off the mud from the sides of the trapped truck, a JCP excavator belonging to the NPWD pulled out the truck from its predicament. For those passengers traveling from Kohima to Mokokchung and also from different places to Kohima, who moved early in the morning, they have to wait for nearly two hours, before they could continue with their journey. It may be mentioned here that the road condition of this particular stretch of road on National Highway 61 is always in a pathetic condition, especially during monsoon season, due to a slow moving mud slide from the hill overhead.
