Hunting ban applies to all, across Nagaland: Chief Wildlife Warden

Kohima, February 25 (MExN): The office of the Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland, has clarified that hunting of all wild animals or birds in Nagaland is strictly prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Chief Wildlife Warden Vedpal Singh said that while it is generally believed that hunting of wild animals or birds is permitted within the territorial jurisdiction of Nagaland, with the adoption of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 by the State Government on December 18, 1981, hunting of all wild animals or birds is strictly prohibited and, hence an offence.

The only exceptions are vermin, including certain species of rats etc., which have been specified in the Act or when permission to hunt certain animal is accorded under the provisions of the Act for reasons specified therein. Other than that, there are no exceptions in terms of time or species, he said.
