TUENSANG, AUGUST 14 (MExN): The Research Committee of Sao Chang College on August 14 organised a hybrid interdepartmental seminar at the College Conference Hall, bringing together participants on-site and online for discussions on cultural studies and environmental sustainability.
Chaired by Watisenla Sangtam, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, the seminar opened with an online presentation by Mekory Dodum, Research Scholar, Department of Sociology, Tezpur University, who delivered a paper on “Naming Practices and Identity Fusion: A Socio-Political Study of the Bangnis (Nyishis) of East Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh.”
The presentation examined the evolution of Nyishi naming traditions and the influence of external cultures, modernization, and imposed surnames on traditional systems.
The second session, conducted in person, featured Tekameren Walling, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, who spoke on “Vermiwash: A Natural Liquid Fertilizer for Sustainable Agriculture.” He highlighted eco-friendly farming methods and the role of vermiwash in improving soil fertility, increasing crop yields, and acting as a natural pest repellent.
An interactive session enabled participants from both modes to exchange ideas. Dr Limamanen Phom, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Soyimla Akum, Assistant Professor, Department of English, served as rapporteur.
The seminar concluded with interdisciplinary exchanges bridging virtual and physical participation.
