Former Nagaland Chief Secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir today held a meeting with the leaders of the Naga People's Front (NPF) Mokokchung division, where he expressed gratitude to the NPF for accepting him into the party fold. He enrolled his name in the NPF party, Mokokchung division right after his retirement. However, this is the first time that he has held a meeting with the NPF divisional leaders. It was an 'introductory meeting', said the former bureaucrat.

While interacting with media persons, Alemtemshi said he would focus on politics and work for the welfare of the state and society. On being asked why he joined the NPF party, Alemtemshi said he had carefully examined his perspectives and found that he always had a 'regional perspective,' to work for the development of the state.

On being asked about his hope for Naga youth, Alemtemshi said there are 'no ends' for them. He asserted that the older generation can straighten the system, work for social restructuring, build infrastructure and create an enabling environment, 'which is the basic role of every parent.’ He stated that if such an environment is created then the youth will have a better chance of survival, based on equality and justice.

Alemtemshi informed that he had prepared the 10th and 12th Plan and Vision 2020, while he was a bureaucrat; the plan and Vision emphasized on the development of the foothill areas and roads, of urbanization and industrialization, in order to generate employment for the youth.

He pointed out that government jobs have become very limited and therefore finding employment opportunities in the private sector has become a necessity. These employment opportunities can be produced through industrialization of the foothill areas, because the foothill areas provide better potentials for establishing industries than in the hilltops, where transport and communications pose a tough challenge.

Nonetheless, he expressed concern that there is an air of frustration in society at present. As a result of which, he said, there is a need to usher in a faster pace of reform and restructuring in governance, so society can develop in an equitable manner.

Alemtemshi further revealed that his reason for joining politics was the ‘limitless scope’ that it offered. He disclosed he will mostly stay in Mokokchung, interacting and meeting with the people of the district, and he will campaign for Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who is the DAN consensus candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat from Nagaland.
