IAP celebrates Breastfeeding Week in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Nagaland State Branch of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) celebrated Breastfeeding Week on August 6 at Zion Hospital, Dimapur. 

A breastfeeding quiz was organized for THE nurses. The quiz had participants from six different hospitals. CIHSR nurses won the quiz and Dr Bendanginla, the consultant pediatrician and intensivist at Eden Hospital spoke about the physiology and benefits of breastfeeding. Dr Zubenthung presided over the meeting. The quiz was conducted by Dr Temjen, Dr Wonashi and Dr Deepak. Dr Apong from Nikos Hospital and Dr Sulanthung from CIHSR also attended the celebration.

Dr Akumtoshi, President, IAP Nagaland emphasized the need for special breastfeeding stations or room in public places and offices so that mothers can breastfeed in privacy. Dr Akumtoshi lauded the Assam Government for opening a breastfeeding room at Guwahati and Kamakhya railway stations recently and hoped that Nagaland would follow suit. 

He also appealed to the public to be aware of the benefits of breastfeeding and to exclusively breastfeed infants till six months of age and continue till two years of age. The celebration ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Chubakumzuk.
