DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Nagaland centre organized 5 days training programme on improving livelihood security of farmers through seed production technologies of rice and toria alongwith input support system from September 4 to 8 at the research complex. 

In the inaugural session, Dr H Kalita, Head of ICAR Research complex for NEH region, Nagaland centre and the course director, emphasized on the importance of rice and toria quality seed production for enhancing productivity and cropping intensity, which will eventually improve the livelihood and economy of the state.  Dr Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun and the chief guest of the session, in his address, cited the vital role of seeds in agricultural production and the need for adopting scientific techniques of seed production.

Bodevi Shüya, DAO, Chumoukedima and guest of honour, highlighted on the various activities of the state Agriculture Department and various schemes for the farmers. He also urged the farmers to avail the benefits and implement the activities effectively by coordinating with various stakeholders. 

Altogether, 30 farmers from Dimapur and Chumoukedima district participated in the training programme.

The resource persons from ICAR, KVK Dimapur, NU: SAS covered topics on various aspects encompassing seed production principles, agronomic practices, crop protection measures, integrated approaches, seed storage systems etc. Critical inputs such as irrigation pipes, electric water motor pumps, sprayers, insecticides, seeds etc were distributed to the farmers along with completion certificates during the valedictory programme.
