ICAR-NRCM holds field visit & Mithun mela in Arunachal Pradesh

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 27 (MExN): A team from the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRCM), led by Chief Technical Officer Dr Kobu Khate, conducted a field visit to Dibbin Village, Arunachal Pradesh on February 25. The visit focused on the vaccination and monitoring of Mithuns, a key livestock species in the region.

During the visit, over 80 Mithuns were vaccinated, tagged, and monitored for growth, with blood samples collected for further analysis. The initiative aims to understand the genetic growth of Mithuns and improve the livelihoods of farmers involved in Mithun rearing.

The following day, on February 26, the team organized a Mithun Mela at Nafra, West Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh. The event provided a platform for local farmers to engage in discussions on scientific Mithun rearing practices, with expert insights shared by the team. Dongru Siongju, MLA of West Kameng District, served as the chief guest at the function.

The Mithun Mela saw the participation of over 250 Mithun farmers, who benefitted from the knowledge shared during the event. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Bomdila, as well as other experts, were recognized for their contributions to promoting Mithun husbandry practices.

The event also included an exhibition of technologies and products related to Mithun farming, with contributions from ICAR-NRCM, KVK West Kameng, and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Arunachal Pradesh.

Additionally, a policy paper on the "Roadmap for Revitalizing the Mithun Sector in Arunachal Pradesh" was released at the event by the MLA, District Collector, and other government officials. Copies of the policy paper were distributed to farmers' associations and line departments.

The activities were part of ongoing efforts by ICAR-NRCM to promote scientific Mithun farming and support rural farming communities in the region. Farmers expressed gratitude for the assistance provided under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) scheme and the support of ICAR-NRCM Director, Girish Patil.
